Behavioural Health

The Behavioural Health Consultant (BHC) works with you and your health care team to support you if you are experiencing mental health problems, life stress, motivational issues or other concerns. The BHC has special training in the behavioural management of health issues through
brief interventions. Together, the BHC and your doctor can consider the mind-body-behaviour connection and help you determine a course of action that will work best for you.

A BHC can help you develop skills to cope better with emotional or behavioural issues such as:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Bereavement

They can also help you to develop plans to:

  • Quit smoking
  • Manage alcohol use
  • Be more active
  • Help with other lifestyle changes

They can also work with you to reduce symptoms that go along with certain chronic conditions, or help you cope better with these conditions. A few of these include:

  • Headaches
  • Trouble with sleep
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Chronic pain
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Ashtma

Talk to your doctor if you would like a visit with a BHC. Often, you can see a BHC in the same office as your family doctor.

If your doctor does not have a BHC working in their clinic, you may be referred to our Northgate Centre location or to Rundle Health Centre for this appointment. Services are also available at Rundle Health Centre (3427 – 118 Ave) by self referral if you have a T5W or T5A postal code.

This service is offered at Northgate Centre and Rundle Health Centre

Services at Northgate Centre require a referral from your family doctor, who is a member of the PCN.
Services at Rundle Health Centre are available to you if you have a T5W postal code. You do not require a referral. You can either call or walk in to book an appointment.
