Internal Medicine

Internal medicine is the medical specialty which deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many adult diseases.  If you are newly diagnosed or struggling to cope with a variety of medical conditions ask your family doctor about a referral.

This clinic will see referred patients for any of the following concerns:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Heart failure
  • COPD (progressive lung diseases that make it hard to breathe)
  • Asthma
  • Undifferentiated shortness of breath (trouble breathing) 
  • Atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) 
  • Venous thromboembolism (when a blood clot travels through the blood) 
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Polypharmacy/Medication reconciliation (when you are taking multiple medications at the same time) 
  • Dyslipidemia (an abnormal amount of lipids in the blood)
  • Electrolyte disturbances (for example: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium)
  • Abnormal liver enzymes (caused by liver inflammation or injury) 
  • Hematological abnormalities (diseases that effect the blood) 
  • Chronic kidney disease (loss of kidney function)

Services at the Edmonton Community Health Hub North require a referral from your family doctor, who is a member of the PCN.
