Internal Medicine
Internal medicine is the medical specialty which deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many adult diseases. If you are newly diagnosed or struggling to cope with a variety of medical conditions ask your family doctor about a referral.
This clinic will see referred patients for any of the following concerns:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Heart failure
- COPD (progressive lung diseases that make it hard to breathe)
- Asthma
- Undifferentiated shortness of breath (trouble breathing)
- Atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)
- Venous thromboembolism (when a blood clot travels through the blood)
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Polypharmacy/Medication reconciliation (when you are taking multiple medications at the same time)
- Dyslipidemia (an abnormal amount of lipids in the blood)
- Electrolyte disturbances (for example: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium)
- Abnormal liver enzymes (caused by liver inflammation or injury)
- Hematological abnormalities (diseases that effect the blood)
- Chronic kidney disease (loss of kidney function)
